ABOUT ME

I was born in Brooklyn, NY but raised in Central Florida where I graduated with honors from Maynard Evans High School and from the Honors program at Valencia Community College. It was at Valencia that I decided to pursue a career in education. I attended Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama where I graduated with a B.S. in Mathematics Education with a minor in music. I am a certified highly qualified teacher in the states of Alabama and Florida. I earned this status by earning appropriate degrees in the teaching field as well as reaching qualifying scores on the PRAXIS examination. On this examination I received a National Excellence Award for testing in the top 15% of all teachers in the country.

I am an avid sports fan (Go Gators). I have played and coached organized basketball and volleyball since I was in middle school. Students will often converse with me about their sports activities. I love to go watch my students as they play for their teams in everything from football to softball.

Another of my hobbies is cooking. I have always loved cooking (I’ve been told I’m a decent chef). For over 17 years I have worked on and off as a cook in various locations including different restaurants in Universal Studios Florida and Universal Islands of Adventure and, of all places, Ryan’s steakhouse.

I have had the opportunity to visit a number of different states and a few countries including, The Bahamas, Canada, and Barbados. While visiting these locations I performed in a number of concerts with The Voices of Triumph, one of the student choirs of my alma mater, Oakwood University, participated in mission and service projects, and had the opportunity to spend time visiting and observing some of the schools. I took many things away from these trips, but one of the most important things I observed was simply that students in America are not very different from students elsewhere. Some of the things that distinguished the successful student from the unsuccessful student were desire, discipline, hard work, and caring/competent teachers and parents.

Ultimately I’m just a normal person. Sometimes people forget teachers are just regular people who have regular lives outside of the classroom. The calling I have accepted to teach has allowed me a number of great opportunities and I consider it a privilege. It is an awesome responsibility and I appreciate and do not take for granted the trust that parents and students have placed in me. I promise to do my best to help you train and educate your children so they can not only pass math, but so they can be confident, competent contributors to society. Have a Great Year!
